HolyHell - s/t - [2009]

HolyHell is a female-fronted Power Metal band from the United Stated and this is their self-titled debut. The band has all the elements that you want in a band from the genre: soothing voice, good musicianship and solid songs. The band has good great players starting with their singer Maria Breon. Her voice is soothing and melodic, you'll be satisfied with her performance as long as you don't expect super high notes. The rhythm section is very good, led by Jay Rigney (bass) and Kenny Earl "Rhino" Edwards (drums, and former Manowar member). Nevertheless, to me their pair of guitarists Thomas Hess and Joey Stump are the stars of the record. Both of them contribute a lot to the songs and while the riffs are unspectacular. ¡Strong dark Album!

Now she has partnered with a group of veteran musicians to put out what could be one of the best debut albums of the year. With songwriting help from Thomas Vikström (TALK OF THE TOWN) and Sören Kronqvist (CRASH THE SYSTEM) among others, and some killer musicians such as Peter Huss (Shining), drummer Uli Kusch (Masterplan, Helloween), keyboardist Tim Larsson (Nick Lachey), and bassist Magnus Noberg (Dionysus), Issa has managed to create a superb album which offers soaring and instantly likeable hooklines, solid guitar riffs and a crisp sound.The woman sings with enthusiasm and style, and will bring a smile to the face of even the most jaded rock fan.
