Soulspell - Labyrinth Of Truths - [2010]

Brazilian drummer Heleno Vale brings his second installment of the Soulspell metal opera Labyrinth of Truths. With the international success of the first part, A Legacy of Honor, Vale received some important recognition and so some help from some significant metal players. Jon Oliva [Jon Oliva’s Pain, Savatage], Roland Grapow [Masterplan,Helloween], Zak Stevens [Circle II Circle, Savatage] and Germán Pascual [ex. Narnia] have come on board to offer their well-known talents. Following its debut Labyrinth of Truths continues its ambitious focus on strong melodic heavy and power metal. Using words like grand, epic or majestic are not wasted on Vale's project.

Salute - Heart Of The Machine - [2010]

Mikael Erlandsson returns with his sophomore release Heart of the Machine. The Last Autumn's Dream vocalist continues the path tread on Toy Soldier. Actually, the music hear could easily have been the second of a two disc set on the former release or simply the songs that didn't make it (simply because he had too many). Nevertheless, this is standard Erlandsson/LAD fare: nearly immaculate, persuasive, and entertaining melodic rock from a true master.

High-Handed Mask

HolyHell - s/t - [2009]

HolyHell is a female-fronted Power Metal band from the United Stated and this is their self-titled debut. The band has all the elements that you want in a band from the genre: soothing voice, good musicianship and solid songs. The band has good great players starting with their singer Maria Breon. Her voice is soothing and melodic, you'll be satisfied with her performance as long as you don't expect super high notes. The rhythm section is very good, led by Jay Rigney (bass) and Kenny Earl "Rhino" Edwards (drums, and former Manowar member). Nevertheless, to me their pair of guitarists Thomas Hess and Joey Stump are the stars of the record. Both of them contribute a lot to the songs and while the riffs are unspectacular. ¡Strong dark Album!

Seventh Key - The Raging Fire - [2004]

A great melodic hard rock record – no more no less. Perfectly produced by Mike Slamer, who adds enough bells and whistles to make it interesting and sometimes challenging to the general ethos of what a melodic rock record should sound like. However, every note on this album was written and recorded to please the fans and I believe they have done that with some outstanding songs and inspired performances. Terry Brock adds backing vocals, which give the harmonies even more depth. A brilliant album that will please just about everybody.

The Sun Will Rise

Eric Martin's talents as a vocalist and a songwriter have been highly evaluated since his solo debut back in 1985, and this was even before he joined the super rock band, MR BIG. The year 2010 marks his 25th Anniversary as a solo singer, and Sony Music Japan International will release his new compilation album "Love Is Alive 〜Works of 1985-2010〜"on September 8th. The album includes 14 songs - 7 songs highlighting Eric's 25 years of his magnificent career in the music business, plus 3 brand new songs and 3 rare bonus tracks. ¡ Amazing album !

Union Mac - Lost In Attraction - [2007]

“Lost In Attraction”, counts a total of 13 Melodic Hard Rock tracks that bring back memories to that golden 80´s decade, that was ruled by mainly American and Canadian acts. Strong melodies, powerful vocals, huge choruses, catchy riffs, ear-catching keyboards … you name it, these guys deliver it. ¡ A gem to discover !

HB - Frozen Inside - [2008]

Frozen Inside is symphonic and gothic metal with a Christian message. The songs are layered with atmospheric keyboards and thick guitars. There are also plenty of orchestral parts with strings and choirs. HB's style is similar to groups like Within Temptation and Nightwish. ¡ Strong album for all Symphonic fans !

Houston - s/t - [2010]

HOUSTON are firing off classic 80s AOR in the vein of Journey and Survivor. The duo courtesy of Hampus Erix and Freddie Allan got help in the studio by cracks like Tommy Denander, Mats Olausson and Thomas Vikström plus Ricky Delin (Rainmaker) at the production helm and the result is simply stunning – pure and classy 80s flavoured AOR stuff nexto to Bad Habit, H.e.a.t., Alien, and Treat. Probably the best AOR album of this year, excellent melodic rhythms, fantastic keyboard work and outstanding catchy songs. ¡ Brilliant !

Kiske/Somerville - s/t - [2010]

Superb collaboration between the powerful voices of Michael Kiske and Amanda Somerville, An album that no need any comment. the cover says it all.

Issa - Sign Of Angels - [2010]

ISSA (Isabell Oversveen) is a 26 year old singer from Oslo, Norway, and she’s not a rookie.
The woman has been kicking around the music scene since she was 17, working with many local bands and record studios and winning much praise and support from both the Norwegian and international music industry. Now she has partnered with a group of veteran musicians to put out what could be one of the best debut albums of the year. With songwriting help from Thomas Vikström (TALK OF THE TOWN) and Sören Kronqvist (CRASH THE SYSTEM) among others, and some killer musicians such as Peter Huss (Shining), drummer Uli Kusch (Masterplan, Helloween), keyboardist Tim Larsson (Nick Lachey), and bassist Magnus Noberg (Dionysus), Issa has managed to create a superb album which offers soaring and instantly likeable hooklines, solid guitar riffs and a crisp sound. The woman sings with enthusiasm and style, and will bring a smile to the face of even the most jaded rock fan. Musically solid, slickly produced, very radio-friendly, incredibly upbeat and positive without being vapid or sugary, "Sign Of Angels" is a winner. One of the Melodic albums of the year.
